“TILL THERE WAS YOU” ANIMATION
I created this animation to the tune of The Beatles’ “Till There Was You.” I illustrated individual frames in Procreate and sequenced them together in After Effects, layering the elements to create a cohesive composition.
IT STARTS WITH A SKETCH
While my final animation isn’t a replication of my initial sketches, this phase of creation remains a crucial first step. I was able to lock down a color palette and illustration style, and begin visualizing how I was going to animate each object.
462 DIGITALLY DRAWN FRAMES
Using Procreate’s animation assistant, I illustrated separate elements of the final composition, like the pedals seen here. I began to understand the shapes and patterns required to make something look in motion, because I was drawing the movement frame by frame.
PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER
Each element has its own composition where the exported PNGs are sequenced together to look in motion. In After Effects, I was able to manipulate each one so that they fit together with the correct sizing, spacing, and timing. This was critical for repeating and layering objects. Throughout this project, it was important to stay organized with file naming and location.
